ABOUT YOUR TRAINER....

Welcome to Haven Dog Training – I am Kandi Burkhardt and I have recently moved to the Lafayette, Louisiana area.

I moved here from North Carolina, where my previous training facility humbly held the title of #1 Dog Trainer & Boarding Kennel for several years in an area with over 200,000 people and 30+ other trainers – as well as the leading facility for behavioral modification rehabilitation training. We truly dedicated ourselves to helping thousands of dogs and dog owners better their relationships to live happier lives together.

After my husband retired from 30-years of military service, I sold my training business in NC and we relocated to our forever home here in Louisiana. Now, I have re-branded to Haven Dog Training and I am very excited to work with you.

WHY CHOOSE ME....

Experience matters. I have many years of diverse and proven experience in obedience, behavior modification, therapy dog, and service dog. I am a certified trainer, as well as a registered evaluator with the American Kennel Club and United Kennel Club. I am enabled to conduct testing for the AKC Canine Good Citizen title, AKC Community & Urban titles, Trick Dog titles, as well as the UKC Socialized Pet Obedience Test. At the end of an obedience program, you and your dog will have the option of testing for the AKC Canine Good Citizen certificate/title or the UKC SPOT test - at no additional cost.

This is not just obedience. Anyone can do obedience. These are not your typical training sessions. Your program is very robust and packed with everything to help you succeed. Your training program teaches you how to communicate with and understand your dog - teaches you how to lead properly so your dog will follow - and teaches your dog how to think and make good decisions. My approach is not the assembly line, one-size suits all, type training. Instead, it's a holistic focus on you and your dog - as a team. This is not flashy tiktoks, harsh methods, unnecessary cues/commands, or robot dogs afraid to mess up. This is practical and useful training to assist you and your dog in normal everyday life to develop a line of communication, understanding, and enjoy a better life together without stress or frustration for either of you.

Dogs graduating from my programs receive a certificate of completion and ribbon of their respective level achieved. If they successfully pass the AKC CGC or UKC SPOT, they will also receive an AKC or UKC ribbon from me, as well as an additional certificate/title directly from the AKC or UKC, respectfully.

I offer training programs in the form of One-on-One private sessions or Board & Train programs. In the One-on-One private sessions, your session time is dedicated to just you and your dog. In a Board & Train program, your dog stays with us 24/7 for a few weeks and we work through all of the repetitive type work for you. Group classes are only offered once or twice per year.

PRICING & PROGRAM TYPES....

OPTION 1: PRIVATE ONE-ON-ONE SESSIONS
In private lessons, it's all about you and your dog. You do not have to share your time with others so that we may focus everything on what matters. During your lesson, you are learning along with your dog. After each lesson, you will receive detailed homework on everything we worked on and discussed during that lesson - this is what you will practice at home, every day between our in-person appointments.

Young Puppy Foundation/Basic Obedience: $455 total, at my location
Typically ages 10-weeks to 4-months of age. Includes FIVE lessons packed into FOUR appointments.
Your first appointment is a double-lesson at about 2-hours in length.
Remaining lessons are approximately 1-hour in length.

Pet Dog Obedience Intermediate/Advanced: $575 total, at my location
Any age; free evaluation typically required. Includes SIX lessons packed into FIVE appointments.
Your first appointment is a double-lesson at about 2-hours in length.
Remaining lessons are approximately 1-hour in length.

OPTION 2: BOARD &TRAIN HYBRID PROGRAMS
The board & train option gives you and your dog a huge jump start on your training journey. Since you don't attend this type of training with your dog, you will still have lessons at the time of pick up - and after, but the solid foundation of training is complete, without all of the repetition done for you. The hard part is done for you.
With this training option, your dog stays with us 24/7 for several weeks of training.
Afterward, you will also have TWO private training lessons, included:
1st Lesson: At time of pick up, a 2 to 3 hour session to show you everything your dog has learned - and teach YOU how to use and practice these new skills appropriately.
2nd Lesson: You and your dog will return 2 to 3-weeks later for a 1-hour follow-up lesson to be sure everything is still going well, work on any tweaks, or even add more skills.

Board & Train Hybrid Program: Young Puppy Foundation/Basic Obedience:
Stays with me for 3-weeks & includes 2 private lessons, $2795 total
Typically ages 10-weeks to 4-months of age. Your first private lesson is at pick up and is approximately 2-3 hours in length. Your second private lesson is approximately 1-hour in length.

Board & Train Hybrid Program: Pet Dog Obedience:
Stays with me for 4-weeks & includes 2 private lessons, $3695 total
Any age; free evaluation required. Your first private lesson is at pick up and is approximately 2-3 hours in length.
Your second private lesson is approximately 1-hour in length.

Behavioral issues or other factors may require more time,
depending on the behaviors, concerns, goals, and other factors.

Board & Train spots are VERY limited to ensure your dog gets the high-quality training, care, and attention we pride ourselves on. We do not rack and stack a dozen dogs with stress-inducing chaos ensuing in their learning and resting environments. During their stay, your dog not only gets their proper training, but also receives proper exercise, mental enrichment, free play, engagement and interactive play, proper dog interaction (if desired), and of course affection. Indoor accommodations with central air and heat, as well as all the comforts needed. They even listen to classical music during rest periods.

To reserve your Board & Train spot, call to schedule as soon as you know this is what you desire. We must first schedule your evaluation. Board & Train spots are usually booked out for a month or two (sometimes longer), so it's important to get your dates planned early.

Depending on what you are here for, no matter which program you choose,
these are the typical things you will work on.....

- How to not repeat cues/commands
- How to gain a calm mindset in the dog
- How/when to wean off treats
- Sit; first time & faster - and an Auto-Sit
- Focus and an Auto-Focus
- Come when called
- Down
- Stay
- Leave-it
- Place
- Door Manners

All cues/commands and behavior-work will depend on your dog, your goals, and our timeframe.

AKC/UKC:  Upon completion of any program, you have to opportunity to take the AKC Canine Good Citizen test or the UKC Socialized Pet Obedience Test, whether your dog is pure bred or not, registered or not - and at no extra charge. You also have to option to take this test at a later date with no fee.

AKC/UKC Whether you have trained with me or not - if you believe you and your dog are ready for testing, the UKC SPOT or any of the AKC titles may be scheduled by appointment. If you are not one of my training graduates, testing fees are $40 for onsite tests and tests required to be offsite start at $100.

BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION:
Complimentary evaluation required. Depending on behavior severity, this may require additional sessions to be added to your program after a solid obedience foundation is developed. This would be for high fear, anxiety, reactivity, aggression and/or resource guarding. This type of work requires you. You must be willing to make the time and effort.

THERAPY DOG or SERVICE DOG:
Only offered after complimentary evaluation and assessment is complete.
Both are intensive programs requiring an assessment with dog & handler. Both programs require bulletproof obedience training, public access (SD)/public interaction (TD) training, task training for service dogs - and facility visits for therapy dogs. Both programs REQUIRE your devoted time and work to see it through.

Now, let's train your dog and make sit happen!

My very best to you and your dog,

Kandi Burkhardt
