ABOUT YOUR TRAINER....

Welcome to Haven Dog Training! I am Kandi Burkhardt and I have recently moved to the Broussard, Louisiana area.

I moved here from Northern Arkansas, where I worked with both Arkansas and Missouri clients (and from across the country). Although my time in Arkansas was a short 2-years, my training reputation quickly became the top referred and trusted facility. I also made some amazing friend-clients that I will never forget.

Prior to Arkansas, I was in North Carolina, where my previous training facility humbly held the title of #1 Dog Trainers & Boarding Kennel for several years in an area with over 200,000 people and 30+ other trainers – as well as the leading facility for behavioral modification rehabilitation training. We truly dedicated ourselves to helping thousands of dogs and dog owners to better their relationships and live happier lives together.

After my husband retired from over 30-years of military service, I sold my training business in NC and we temporarily relocated to Arkansas - and now - finally in our forever home here in Louisiana.

WHY CHOOSE ME....

Experience matters.
I have many years of diverse and proven experience in obedience, behavior modification, therapy dog, and service dog. I am a certified trainer, as well as a registered evaluator with the American Kennel Club and United Kennel Club. I am enabled to conduct testing for the AKC Canine Good Citizen title, AKC Community & Urban titles, Trick Dog titles, as well as the UKC Socialized Pet Obedience Test. At the end of an obedience program, you and your dog will have the option of testing for the AKC Canine Good Citizen certificate/title or the UKC SPOT test - at no additional cost.

This is not just obedience.
Anyone can do obedience. These are not your typical training sessions. Your program is very robust and packed with everything to help you succeed. Your training program teaches you how to communicate with and understand your dog - teaches you how to lead properly so your dog will follow - and teaches your dog how to think and make good decisions. My approach is not the assembly line, one-size suits all, type training. Instead, it's a holistic focus on you and your dog - as a team. This is not flashy tiktoks, harsh methods, unnecessary cues/commands, or robot dogs afraid to mess up. This is practical and useful training to assist you and your dog in normal everyday life to develop a line of communication, understanding, and enjoy a better life together without stress or frustration for either of you.

Dogs graduating from my programs receive a certificate of completion and ribbon of their respective level achieved. If they successfully pass the AKC CGC or UKC SPOT, they will also receive an AKC or UKC ribbon from me, as well as an additional certificate/title directly from the AKC or UKC, respectfully.

I offer training programs in the form of One-on-One private sessions - either my location or yours. Your private sessions are dedicated to just you and your dog. Group classes are only offered once or twice per year and those are typically for advancing  reactive dog skills.

PRICING & PROGRAM TYPES....

PRIVATE ONE-ON-ONE SESSIONS
In private lessons, you do not have to share your time with others, so that we may focus everything on what matters to you. Private sessions are my preferred programs because the human must learn just as much as the dog. You must learn to lead - and during the process of your lessons, this will be developing. After each lesson, you will receive detailed homework on everything we worked on and discussed during that lesson - this is what you will practice at home, every day between our in-person appointments.

AKC/UKC:  Upon completion of any program, you have to opportunity to take the AKC Canine Good Citizen test or the UKC Socialized Pet Obedience Test, whether your dog is pure bred or not, registered or not - and at no extra charge. You also have to option to take this test at a later date with no fee.

AKC/UKC Whether you have trained with me or not - if you believe you and your dog are ready for testing, the UKC SPOT or any of the AKC titles may be scheduled by appointment. If you are not one of my training graduates, testing fees are $50 for onsite tests and tests required to be offsite start at $150.

BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION:
Evaluation required. Depending on behavior severity, this may require additional sessions to be added to your program after a solid obedience foundation is developed. This would be for high fear, anxiety, reactivity, aggression and/or resource guarding. This type of work requires you.
You must be willing to make the time and effort - and your behavior change.

THERAPY DOG or SERVICE DOG:
Only offered after evaluation and passing initial assessment with dog & handler.
Both are intensive programs, requiring dedicated lifestyle to training.
Both programs require bulletproof obedience training, public access (SD)/public interaction (TD) training, task training for service dogs - and facility visits for therapy dogs.
Both programs absolutely REQUIRE your devoted time and work to see it through.

Now, let's train your dog and make sit happen!

My very best to you and your dog,

Kandi Burkhardt
